Mercado District & Sentinel Peak

Drive, hike or ride to the top of this iconic peak and enjoy panoramic views of the city.

Sentinel Rising

Just west of downtown, Sentinel Peak is a natural landmark designated "A" Mountain by University of Arizona students. At the base sits Mission Garden, which tells the story of Tucson's 4,000-year agricultural history and sheds light on the city's 2015 selection as the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy in the United States. Drive or hike the scenic peak for views of five surrounding mountain ranges and nearby Tumamoc Hill, a living research laboratory whose car-free paved trail is popular with hikers, runners, and nature watchers.

Mercado San Agustín Tucson's Westside Public Market

Here at the west end of the Sun Link Streetcar route the side-by-side Mercado San Agustín and MSA Annex feature a delightful cluster of locally owned small businesses, including the Mexican bakery La Estrella, the taqueria Seis Kitchen, and the coffee shop Stella Java. Grab a bite in the sunny courtyard surrounded by local artisans or savor a meal at the innovative restaurant Agustin Kitchen. There's always something going on, from the weekly farmers market to regular outdoor movies, food truck round-ups, and live concerts. The shops and eateries at the MSA Annex are housed beautifully inside modified shipping containers.

This area is also the epicenter for the All Souls Procession weekend -- the parade's grand finale culminates here with an inspiring performance that mixes modern art, acrobatics, and wisdom of ancient culture.

Nearby, in surrounding historic neighborhoods, you can taste Tucson's borderlands cuisine at not-to-be-missed local restaurants, such as the soup-fan paradise Tania's 33, the seafood celebration Mariscos Chihuahua, and the taco shop specializing in slushy, fresh fruit drinks Sonoran Delights Raspados.
