Tucson’s progressive culture and relaxed, live-and-let-live attitude have made the city one of the country’s most gay-friendly places to live or visit. So, go ahead: Hold hands at the park. Book a couple's massage at the spa. Kiss your partner at dinner. This is Tucson, where open and welcoming is a way of life.
- In 2003, Tucson became the first municipality in Arizona to enact a domestic partner registry law.
- In 2013, Tucson City Council voted unanimously to recognize same-sex civil unions and domestic partnerships.
- The City of Tucson is served by several openly LGBTQIA+ public officials, both elected and appointed.
- Major employers, including the City of Tucson, the University of Arizona, and corporations like Raytheon, Intuit, and Roche sponsor LGBTIQA+ employee organizations.
- Tucson hosts the annual Pride in the Desert celebration in autumn as well as several other LGBTQ-focused events during the year. For additional information, please contact festival@tucsonpride.org.
- Tucson has LGBTQ bars and clubs, LGBTQ-owned businesses, an LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, LGBTQ social clubs and political organizations, LGBTQIA+ youth groups, and LGBTQ-welcoming places of worship.

Tucson LGBT Chamber of Commerce
The Tucson LGBT Chamber of Commerce is a business networking organization dedicated to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community, and its allies, working to encourage a business environment that is open and inclusive as well as to promote Tucson as a welcoming place to live, visit, and do business.
Tucson Pride/TLGA
Tucson Pride/TLGA (Tucson Lesbian and Gay Alliance) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that produces and promotes educational, cultural, and recreational events for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allied communities in Tucson, AZ. Founded in 1977, Tucson Pride is one of the oldest Pride organizations in the nation.
Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation
The Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) is the only community-based organization in Southern Arizona providing case management and ancillary support services for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families, culturally appropriate prevention and education programs to reduce the rate of infection, and extensive training and opportunities for community members to fill critical support roles. SAAF also manages the operation of Anti-Violence Programs (AVP) and the Eon Youth Lounge, a safe drop-in space for LGBTQ youth, ages 13-23.
Southern Arizona Gender Alliance
Southern Arizona Gender Alliance (SAGA) is a nonprofit, located in the unceded territory of the Tohono O’odham and Yaqui. Founded in 1998, SAGA's mission is to uplift gender euphoria and TGNC + BIPOC artists with the vision to nurture Southern Arizona to be the most trans affirming region in the US by 2050.
Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network (TIHAN)
TIHAN offers hearts and hands to provide compassionate and non-judgmental service to those affected by HIV/AIDS. Through education and support, members of TIHAN - as individuals and as faith communities - work to build bridges, reduce stigma, and sustain hope.
Southern Arizona Senior Pride
Southern Arizona Senior Pride recognizes and respond to the unique concerns of LGBTQI+ older adults who are 55+ and their younger allies by delivering social and support programming sponsored by Senior Pride in three areas: Social & Learning, Health & Wellbeing, and Arts and Culture, by vetting and sharing LGBTQI+ welcoming information & services offered by other organizations in the community, and Increasing awareness of LGBTQI+ and aging issues.
